Internal Revenue Code (IRC)
Federal tax law governing income tax brackets, standard deductions, and all federal withholding. Updated annually by IRS (Rev. Proc. 2025-32 for 2026).
Social Security Act — FICA
Federal Insurance Contributions Act: 6.2% Social Security tax on wages up to the annual wage base ($184,500 in 2026).
Medicare — FICA
1.45% Medicare tax on all wages with no wage base limit. Additional 0.9% on wages exceeding $200,000 (single filers).
IRC §401(k) — Pre-tax retirement
Allows employees to defer up to $24,500 ($32,500 if 50+) of salary into a 401(k) plan, reducing federal and state taxable income.
IRC §223 — Health Savings Account (HSA)
Allows pre-tax contributions to HSA accounts ($4,400 individual / $8,750 family in 2026) for qualifying high-deductible health plans.
